…the Band

The Campbell River Community Band was founded in January of 1996 by its then director, Céline Ouellette. Over those twenty-two years, players from Campbell River, the Comox Valley and Quadra Island have met on Wednesday nights to enjoy the wonderful world of concert band music. Members range in age from teenagers to pensioners. Several couples are band members, and on many occasions parents and their children have played together. Many of the musicians have been playing in the band since its first rehearsal.

Director Kolya Kowalchuk completed a bachelor of music and a bachelor of education at McGill University in Montreal with distinction. During his studies, he had the pleasure of conducting the McGill wind symphony, McGill symphonic band, Winnipeg Wind Ensemble, McGill Fight Band, as well as leading a production of Gilbert and Sullivan*s “Trial by Jury.” In addition to his time on the podium, Kowalchuk also completed a major in composition at McGill with performances of his works by the McGill Symphony Orchestra. Kolya’s principal instruments are classical piano, and percussion. He maintains his musical skills by teaching and leading bands at Ecole Phoenix Middle School as well as Carihi Secondary School.

Earlier is better than later. The CRCB usually stops at the beginning of May… But I’m sure the members will interested. Let’s talk again in the fall.
